Why won't my V1CE card tap? (NFC troubleshooting)
If your V1CE card opens your page when you scan the QR code but nothing happens when you tap it on a phone, the card is working. Tap and scan use different hardware, so a card can scan fine and still need a better tap technique. Use the steps below.
> Other ways people ask this: "card won't tap", "NFC not working", "tap does nothing", "metal card won't tap", "card only works with QR", "how do I tap my card"
First, confirm the card itself is fine
Scan the QR code on the back of the card with your phone camera. If your V1CE page opens, the card and your page are working, and this is a tap-technique or phone-NFC issue, not a faulty card. If the QR does not open your page either, see "How do I activate my V1CE card?" (article 14) or "My card scans to a 404 or error page".
Tap, do not scan
NFC is the tap function. It is separate from the QR scan. When you test, actually tap the card to the phone. Do not point the camera at it.
Metal cards transmit from the back
On a metal V1CE card, the NFC signal comes out of the back of the card (the side opposite your printed or engraved design). Hold the back of the card flat against the phone, not the front.
On iPhone
- Make sure the screen is on and unlocked.
- Hold the back of the card to the top edge of the phone, near the front camera. The iPhone NFC reader sits at the top.
- Hold it still for a second or two. A notification banner appears at the top. Tap it to open your page.
iPhone NFC is always on, so there is nothing to switch on.
On Android
- Turn NFC on. Most Android phones have NFC switched off by default. Go to Settings and search "NFC", then turn it on.
- Hold the back of the card to the back of the phone.
- Android NFC antennas sit in different places depending on the phone, often one of three spots. Start in the middle of the back of the phone, then move the card slowly up and then down until it reads.
- When it reads, your page opens.
Still not tapping?
If you have tried both the QR scan (works) and the tap (still nothing) on a phone with NFC on, send V1CE support a short video showing what happens when you tap. The team will look at it and, if the card is faulty, reprint and ship a replacement at no extra cost.
If this didn't fix it, start a chat with V1CE and we'll take it from here.
