My V1CE card isn't working: start here
When a V1CE card isn't working, it's almost always one of six specific causes. Pick the symptom below that matches what you're seeing and jump to the fix.
Quick check first
Before troubleshooting, make sure NFC is on (iPhone: it's always on; Android: check the quick-settings panel) and you're tapping the back of the phone, near the camera. If you have a thick phone case, see "Does the NFC tap work through a phone case?" (article 18).
Pick the symptom that matches your card
- "Nothing happens when I tap" — the card is likely reset or unlinked. See "How do I reset my V1CE card?" (article 13) to reactivate it.
- "It opens, but it's the wrong page or someone else's profile" — the NFC chip is encoded with the wrong link. See "My V1CE card NFC redirects to the wrong link or domain" (article 73).
- "It opens, but the page shows 404 or 'page not found'" — your V1CE page is likely unpublished or the link name was changed. See "My card link shows a 404 error or page not found" (article 115).
- "It used to work, but stopped recently" — usually a free trial card whose legacy V1CE Plus subscription lapsed. See "Why has my free trial card stopped working?" (article 142).
- "When I scan, it says the card is assigned to another user" — the card is still linked to a previous owner and needs a reset. See "My card says it is assigned to another user" (article 155).
- "It opens, but my edits aren't showing" — the recipient's phone is showing a cached copy. See "Changes to my V1CE page aren't showing when someone taps my card" (article 54).
- "The NFC tap stopped working but the QR code still works" — the chip may need re-encoding. See "How do I re-encode my V1CE card?" (article 118).
Test the card on a different phone
One quick step before going deeper. If the card works on another phone, the issue is the phone (NFC off, case, OS bug). If it doesn't work on any phone, the issue is the card itself — pick the symptom above.
None of these match
If none of the symptoms fit, the card may be physically damaged. See "My V1CE card is damaged. Can I get a replacement?" (article 2). Or contact V1CE support with a photo of the card and what you're seeing.
